Mandy Payne

Born 1964. Based in Sheffield. Originally trained as a dentist working in the Community and Hospital Dental Services. Studied part time for BA Fine Art (University of Nottingham) - been a full time artist since 2012.

Works in paint and print (stone lithography) - inspired by landscape both rural and urban. Recent urban work has focused on Park Hill, the Grade II* listed Brutalist council estate in Sheffield which is undergoing regeneration. Drawn to locations that are influx and often overlooked, my work explores the capacity of a place to absorb memories and experiences.

Recent exhibitions include John Moores Painting Prize 2014 (Prize winner) and 2016, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2014, 2015 and 2016, New Light Arts Prize 2015, NOAC 2014 and 2015 Art on a Postcard Secret Auction 2015 and Threadneedle Prize 2013.
